Participation of the lecturers of the Institute of Hungarian Linguistics and Literary Science in an international workshop

Lecturers of the Institute of Hungarian Linguistics and Literary science of the Faculty of Central European Studies at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra participated in an international workshop organized by the Department of Philology of Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education. The event was held on April 28, 2026, at the Perényi Cultural Mansion in Beregardó (part of Berehove) in a hybrid format.

The conference was organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the manuscript A Bereg Vármegyei Dialectusnak és közbeszédnek esmertetése (Description of the Dialect and Common Speech of Bereg County) by Pál Nagy Beregszászi, a native of Nagymuzsaly, which remains little known to this day. The 22-page manuscript was not published at the time of its creation, but it was later transferred, along with the author’s other works, to the National Széchényi Library. Today, it is also available on the website of the University of Debrecen.

The conference featured presentations in linguistics, ethnography, and literary studies, addressing the work of the author of the manuscript awaiting publication within the context of the region and the historical period.

Representing the institute:

Ildikó Vančo delivered a presentation titled Characteristics of the Hungarian language variety in Slovakia and its role in identity formation,

István Kozmács presented The interpretable text of the Old Hungarian “Lamentations of Mary”.

The event provided an opportunity for professional dialogue and discussion of current issues in Hungarian linguistic and literary research in a Central European context.

Podujatie vytvorilo priestor pre odborný dialóg a diskusiu o aktuálnych otázkach výskumu maďarského jazyka a literatúry v stredoeurópskom kontexte.
