The success of Nyekkencs
The semifinals of the 31st Tompa Mihály National Competition took place on the 7th of May 2024, in the Egressy Béni Municipal Cultural Centre in Komárno. In addition to the poetry and prose categories, the category no. IV. was named: poems set to music. Several ensembles and formations presented their productions in the aforementioned category. The Faculty of Central European Studies of the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra was represented by three students. The formation called Nyekkencs prepared two poems for the national event. The lyrics of Sándor Petőfi’s I would be river water (Lennék én folyóvíz) and Máté Mezei’s Revolutionary (Forradalmár) were set to music by the students themselves.
The members of the formation are all students majoring in Hungarian and music, by name: Virág Mercédesz Fóthi – vocals, Ádám Mezei – vocals, guitar, Máté Csáky – violin. All three musicians are also members of the NYEKK theatre group operating in our university.
Due to the result achieved in the national semi-final (gold classification), they advanced to the national final of the competition, which has been organized in Rimavská sobota for decades. The Nyekkencs formation will represent our faculty at the national event on the 21st and 22nd of June 2024.
