Successes of our students at the 37th National Scientific Students' Association Conference

In 2025, the National Scientific Students’ Association Conference (in Hungarian: Országos Tudományos Diákköri Konferencia – OTDK) was held for the 37th time. The event is held every other year for students who do additional research work and would like to delve deeper into a topic they like during their university years. Hungarian students from universities in Hungary and abroad can participate in the scientific meeting and competition – students, who have already measured themselves and proven themselves in a previous faculty and/or national round.

Our students were involved in two sections, the Learning and Teaching Methodology – Knowledge Technology Section, and the Humanities Section. Both conferences took place simultaneously, between the 14th and 16th of April 2025.

The former was held in Nagykőrös, at the Faculty of Education of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary. In the final round, a total of 209 different scientific papers were presented by young researchers in 31 sessions, and their work was evaluated by a scientific jury of more than 80 people. Patrícia Kovács, a first-year doctoral student at our institute, won the special prize of the Linguistic and Literary Development session. Her presentation entitled “Multicultural Education with the Help of Roma Folktales” presented the theory of multicultural education and its practical applicability within the framework of reading lessons, in the light of the cross-curricular theme of the Slovak educational program.

The Humanities Section took place at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Szeged. Some of the doctoral students and lecturers of the Institute of the Hungarian Language and Literary Science have participated in the section as observers, and several of our students represented our institution as competitors. Zsuzsa Hajabács was in the Translation Studies session. In her presentation, she dealt with the use of historical personal names in the translations of the slovakia.travel and visitslovakia.com tourism portals. Orsolya Szabolcs presented her paper entitled “Investigation of Local Names in Kamocsa” in the Language History, Finno-Ugric studies, Lexicology session. Natália Szűcs presented in the Sociolinguistics, Dialectology session, and in her work, she analysed the propaganda materials of Hungarian political aspirations in Slovakia, in the town of Veľké Kapušany. The jury awarded her high-quality and well-prepared presentation with 3rd place. Máté Csáky, competing in the Onomastics session, dealt with the place names of Balog and Ipľom. His sincere determination towards research was recognized with a special award by the Hungarian National Toponym Registry, and the jury awarded him the 3rd place in his session.

The results clearly show that with determination and persistent work, it is possible to achieve high rankings at the national, international level, and the energy invested does pay off. We congratulate our students, thank them for standing up to their potential and representing our faculty with high standards. We wish them further great results, lots of success and persistent work!
