Managing the castle hotel The Grand Vígľaš****

On 4th December 2018 second-year students of the Regional Tourism study programme, (Department of Tourism, Constantine the Philosopher University), within the subject of Basics of Hospitality participated in a lecture titled Managing castle hotel The Grand Vígľaš****.

The invitation was accepted by Ing. Tomáš Sokologorský, the hotel director, who enriched our knowledge by his experience from practice of several years.

As he told us, he started to study at the Faculty of Economics at the UMB in Banská Bystrica, at the Department of Tourism. After graduating, he went to gain some own experience in different hotels abroad. After returning from abroad, he joined Sitno Hotel as the Head of the Sales Department. His next and current step on the career ladder is at The Grand Vígľaš Hotel**** as Director.

In addition to other interesting information, we have learned about the advantages and disadvantages of work positions in hotels or how we should solve problems within the hotel, including external or internal ones. He explained to us how they cope with complaints at the hotel, since as a hotel director he meets both positive and negative reviews from the guests which have to be dealt with. As far as disadvantages of the positions in hotels are concerned, he also told us about overwork during holidays, weekends and night services. The lecture was very beneficial in order to better understand and to imagine what is included in higher work positions of the hotel industry.

We really appreciated that the director talked about his experience very openly. We are very grateful that we had the chance to meet someone from the area in which a lot of us want to be employed.
