Central European Areal Studies

The Central European Area Studies study programme focuses on intercultural issues in the Central European region, including cultural anthropology, the interrelationship between human society and culture, and the study of national cultures. It raises the problems of coexistence of ethnically heterogeneous areas in the Central European context and touches on the principles of encounter and coexistence of cultures and ethnicities. Each course is subordinated to the fundamental objectives of the study programme: to learn about the cultures of the nationalities of Central Europe, to conduct comparative studies, and to train professionals capable of identifying sociocultural contexts and developing cultural activities. Given the ethnic diversity in the region, the emphasis is on the study of the cultures and languages of the V4 member states: Bohemian studies, Hungarian studies, Slovak studies and Polish studies. At the same time, the students can learn Czech, Slovak, Polish and Hungarian.
